The Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Saint Ferdinand in Madrid owns a small copy, coming from the Royal Collections, of the Last Supper painted by Tintoretto for the Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice. Thanks to the detailed historical tracking of this piece through the inventories preserved in the archives of the Spanish Royal Palace and the Academy of Fine Arts, together with analyses of its style and technique, the authors demonstrate that this is the work that, consistent with the original sources, Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez copied from the painting by Tintoretto during his first stay in Italy.
