At a meeting concerning Sofonisba Anguissola in Palermo (February 2008), the physician and art collector Dr. Alfio Nicotra (Catania, Sicily) proposed several new attributions to the artist. Four of them are totally convincing and they are here integrated into Sofonisba’s oeuvre: La Madonna dell’ Itría, an image dedicated to the memory of Fabricio de Moncada, Anguissola’s husband; and portraits of Giovanna de Austria (daughter of Don Juan de Austria); Margarita de Saboya; and a Lateran Canon.
