The artistic Byzantine manifestations constitute one of the most important objectives in the appreciation movements of the styles which take place from the 19th century on. As it was expected both the Byzantine and Georgian enamels draw the attention of collectors and scholars and, for different reasons, replicas sometimes used for fraudulent purposes start being made. One of the most unique cases was the Botkin Russian Collection which was invaded by this kind of pieces with the result of having seven enamels in 1892 to more than one hundred and sixty in 1911. One serie of plaques identified as Byzantine belongs to this group that are kept in the Museum Lázaro Galdiano of Madrid. It is highly likely that in the workshops of Fabergé, who was very keen on making replicas, in which he used to make a mark, such a high number of them were made that, no doubt about it, were not controlled by him.
