This study investigates the influence of cinema on modernism: the ways in which its formal resources were received and interpreted; how they were deciphered and assimilated by artists and intellectuals at the beginning of the 20th century; and the manner in which they influenced and transformed the aesthetic of concurrently developing avant-garde artistic movements.
