During the second half of the eighteenth century, the Duke of Hijar renovated, at his own expense, the parish churches of three of his southern Aragonese domains in the towns of Puebla de Hijar, Vinaceite and Urrea de Gaén. For the painting of certain altarpieces, he contracted three important artists from the Court: Francisco de Goya, Ramón Bayeu and José del Castillo.
