Variaciones iconográficas sobre el tema de la Natividad: una inédita Adoración de pastores

La revisión de los fondos pictóricos de la Compañía de Jesús en Roma con motivo de la exposición Baroque visión jésuite, organizada por el Museo de Bellas Artes de Caen ha proporcionado nuevas noticias sobre el patrimonio artístico de los jesuítas en la capital italiana. Una de las pinturas encontradas más sobresalientes ha sido la Adoración de pastores presentada y analizada en este artículo. La obra se caracteriza desde un primer momento por su singularidad en cuanto a su temática, composición y valores iconográficos. Único es el pasaje evangélico de la adoración de los pastores, ya que es descrito tan sólo por San Lucas (2, 8-20): C'erano in quella regione alcuni pastori che vegliavano di notte facendo la guardia al loro gregge.
