El vuelo de la mosca: Beelzebub en las artes

En gran número de composiciones pictóricas, datadas desde mediado el s. XV hasta el primer tercio del s. XVI, encontramos representada una mosca. El motivo del insecto se encuentra por primera vez, casi simultáneamente, en una obra de un artista flamenco y en otra de un artista hispano, aunque como veremos el significado de la mosca es muy distinto en una y otra composición. Desde estos inicios se adopta con rapidez en varios autores italianos, de aquí pasa a artistas del sur de Alemania, y continúa posándose en cuadros de pintores flamencos, donde ocupa un lugar destacado entre las figuras sagradas y en bodegones. Tradicionalmente el motivo de la mosca se había visto desprovisto de significado, su intención era anecdótica o al menos con un valor ilusionista, un trompe l'oeil para aquel que la veía en el cuadro....
